If you are familiar with China’s web 2.0 companies, you should hear of Feedsky, which is regarded as a China’s Feedburner to offer feed hosting service for independent bloggers and blogging service providers. Since July, there were some rumors that Feedsky would be acquired by PR or advertising company. On last Friday, Feedsky announced that it will merge into Tensyn, an advertising agency. When Feedburner was acquired by Google in May 2007, we were wondering whether there is an Internet company in China will acquire Feedsky. But it seems the answer is no. The rss adoption rate in China is still very low, and the China’s longtail online ads market is far from mature, so it is almost impossible for Feedsky to monetize through ads on feed, though it tried very hard. Feedsky changed to focus on blog word-of-mouth marketing, or say something similar to Reviewme.com or PayPerPost.com. It work with brands, such as HP, to recruit bloggers to write paid post for their products, which accounts for most of its revenues. Though I don’t think pay-per-post blog marketing has much value, backed by Tensyn, Feedsky can exploit its numerous feeds resources to try other means of social media marketing. The experience and know-how of two-year practices in blog marketing is Feedsky’s valuable assets. As a friend of Lv Xinxin, CEO of Feedsky, I do hope Feedsky can make something more innovative in China’s social media marketing, and Feedsky will continue to pursuit the opportunities in feed ads market.
